Dr. Jay Altman established Equine Medical Service approximately seven years ago. Since that time our goal has been to provide excellence in equine veterinary care for our patients and an unparalleled level of service and information to our clients. In keeping with this goal, the practice was integrated with Large Animal Veterinary Service in October of 2000. Since its integration Equine Medical Service has grown under the dedication of Dr. Jay Altman, and Dr. Allen Landes to provide complete equine veterinary care to much of Northern Colorado. We maintain two full time ambulatory units, providing daily farm call visits as well as 24 hour per day 365 day per year emergency service. We also maintain a fully equipped clinic that allows for on-premise appointments, whether they are scheduled or emergency in nature.
Our ambulatory units are fully equipped with a complete traveling pharmacy, surgical instrumentation, IV fluids and administration equipment, radiology equipment and both reproductive and soft tissue ultrasounds. We also provide laboratory diagnostic capabilities including complete blood counts, blood chemistry, antibody analysis, cytology, parasitology, and semen analysis. Most recently we have added endoscopy instrumentation to better evaluate upper airway respiratory issues.
Although our clinic is not prepared as a full surgical facility, we have established sufficient equipment and have the surgical expertise to handle many surgeries on site. Additionally, we have a close consulting relationship with Dr. Dave Frisbie, a board certified equine surgeon, and he is available to perform many non-routine types of surgeries as well as lameness diagnostics at our facility.
We strive to maintain strong relationships within the equine veterinary community and by doing so further enhance the capabilities we can bring to our patients. Relationships with specialists in the areas of equine internal medicine, lameness and orthopedics, ophthalmology, reproduction, and field medicine provide a constant source of information regarding cutting edge advancements in equine sport horse medicine. As our practice grows and develops so do these relationships, thus helping to foster new methods of diagnostics and treatment for our patients and improved service capabilities for our clients.
At Equine Medical Service it is our policy and priority to provide our clients with complete medical attention. That means 365 days a year you receive 24-hour emergency coverage. As a client of Equine Medical Service you will never have to "call around" for emergency help. The doctors at EMS will never be unavailable" or "on vacation" when your equine emergency arises. As a client of Equine Medical Service you gain peace of mind knowing that your horses are always covered.
